On Sept 23rd...
We experience cosmic equanimity where the planet is divided into equal parts night and day / “equinox.” As we shift into the last day of Summer, we are invited to turn toward the light within.
Sunday, September 22nd join Black Girl Yoga Ambassador Sihnuu and Kundalini instructor, Nandi Gabremedhin as we go inward, channeling our light with a Fall Equinox grounding flow and Kundalini Yoga. Our time on the mat is accompanied by astrology, journaling, discussion and light vegan fare.
Doors open at 11:00am; Class begins at 11:30am.
All levels and expressions are welcomed. A $10 love offering to support the BGY DC Kula is suggested.
Please come prepared with water, comfortable clothing, an open mind and heart. Mats will be available upon request before event (email yogasihnuu@gmail.com with the subject line "BGY Yoga Mat). We look forward to flowing into the new season with you. Scroll down to learn more!
Sihnuu Hetep, a Washington D.C. native, started her yoga and meditation journey in 2008 with Ausarian Master Teacher Kwesi Karamoko and took healing into her own hands after the passing of her son in 2011. Self care became an essential tool for healing and spiritual growth. She dug deep, used what she learned on the mat to apply yogic principles and meditation to her everyday life in order to remain balanced in her journey.

I am Nandi Gabremedhin a KRI Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Instructor, graduate of Lighthouse Yoga Center’s KRI Teacher Training Program. I took my first yoga class more than 11 years ago in a Saturday program at my son’s school. With that first class I felt more positive, peaceful and happy. I then found a place to take regular classes. I started practicing Ashtanga Yoga. With continuous practice I found it brought a new calm to me, helped me sleep better and connect with others thru a more divine energetic space. There was still something missing. I wanted to take my practice deeper; I wanted to learn to meditate. My sister told me to take a Kudalini class and I did. Initially I thought I’d just take classes for myself, but then I knew fairly soon I wanted to become a teacher to share the benefits of which I so abundantly received.
Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness aimed at healing and balancing total mind body and spirit! Through my own practice and teachings, I have found that Kundalini Yoga has been a way for me to dig deeper and uncover more of myself and my own power, becoming more focused and discipline in developing my spirituality. With life and all that comes the maintenance must continue, is the main reason I keep my practice strong. Kundalini has allowed me to truly see more and has allowed for more uplifting connections with others.
My goal is to vibrate at my highest level so I may influence others to do the same for themselves by being a light to those around me. My classes facilitate experiences for individuals to find their own power, overcome personal challenges, shed the old skin and grow anew by uncovering the divine energy within and illuminating peace, light and love that inspires others thru example and energy.
